HOW TO USE THE SOLAR CALCULATOR

Using the investment and PV array size calculator is fairly straight forward. Remember! The peak-sun hours for Hua Hin, Cha Am and Pranburi is 5.2. Simply pickup your latest electric bill and enter the average monthly payment. Ask someone who reads Thai to show you (on your utility bill) where you can find the Baht/KWh (unit) rate and enter the number into the calculator. DEFINITIONS

Rated Power (KW) of Solar PV Array – The total rated power output (or “size”) in Kilo-Watts of all the panels mounted on your roof.

Peak Sun-Hour: It is important to understand that “peak sun-hours” are not the same as “hours of daylight.” A peak sun-hour is an hour during which the intensity of sunlight is 1,000 watts per square meter. A “peak sun-hour” is a measure of how much solar energy is available in an area during a typical day.

ASSUMPTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Assumes a solar system efficiency factor of 80% and use of European Standard mono crystalline PV panels. Put another way, the outputs are based upon average Thailand solar irradiance conditions and PV performance of ~4kWh/kWp per day. For comparison the average 4-person family in Thailand uses 15-25kWh per day, or 5475-9125kWh per year. By making simple changes to your household energy-consumption, you can reduce your bills (see our FAQ section for more details). Unless a Feed-In-Tariff has been allocated for your property, we recommend household and business owners to not oversize their solar system so that electricity generated exceeds daily-energy consumption. In other words, you should size your solar system to help reduce your monthly electric bills but not achieve a zero balance (0 Baht) on your bill at the end of any month. Whereas future increases in electricity billing rates, Feed-In-Tariffs and Government Incentives Programs are not accounted for in calculations, VAT tax (7%) is included. Maintenance costs are also not included by design.
